Theory of the Bloch Oscillating Transistor

چکیده
The Bloch oscillating transistor (BOT) is a device, where single electron current through a normal tunnel junction enhances Cooper pair current in a mesoscopic Josephson junction leading to signal amplification. In this paper we develop a theory, where the BOT dynamics is described as a two-level system. The theory is used to predict current-voltage characteristics and small-signal response. The transition from stable operation into hysteretic regime is studied. By identifying the two-level switching noise as the main source of fluctuations, the expressions for equivalent noise sources and the noise temperature are derived. The validity of the model is tested by comparing the results with simulations and experiments. PACS numbers: 74.78.Na, 85.25.Am, 85.35.Gv

Calculation of the Induced Charge Distribution on the Surface of a Metallic Nanoparticle Due to an Oscillating Dipole Using Discrete Dipole Approximation method
In this paper, the interaction between an oscillating dipole moment and a Silver nanoparticle has been studied. Our calculations are based on Mie scattering theory and discrete dipole approximation(DDA) method. At first, the resonance frequency due to excitingthe localized surface plasmons has been obtained using Mie scattering theory and then by exciting a dipole moment in theclose proximity of...
متن کاملHomogenization of the Schrodinger equation with a time oscillating potential
We study the homogenization of a Schrödinger equation in a periodic medium with a time dependent potential. This is a model for semiconductors excited by an external electromagnetic wave. We prove that, for a suitable choice of oscillating (both in time and space) potential, one can partially transfer electrons from one Bloch band to another. This justifies the famous ”Fermi golden rule” for th...
متن کاملJosephson junctions in charge and phase picture Theory and applications
Properties of weak links between two superconductors, or Josephson junctions, make them interesting for fundamental physics research. Since their discovery over four decades ago, they have provided a unique way to study the behavior of the superconducting quantum phase. More recently, ultra small, or mesoscopic, Josephson junctions with substantial single Cooper pair charging energy have gained...
متن کاملNORMAL FORM SOLUTION OF REDUCED ORDER OSCILLATING SYSTEMS
This paper describes a preliminary investigation into the use of normal form theory for modelling large non-linear dynamical systems. Limit cycle oscillations are determined for simple two-degree-of-freedom double pendulum systems. The double pendulum system is reduced into its centre manifold before computing normal forms. Normal forms are obtained using a period averaging method which is appl...
متن کاملAlgorithms for Computing Limit distributions of Oscillating Systems with Finite Capacity
We address the batch arrival systems with finite capacity under partial batch acceptance strategy where service times or rates oscillate between two forms according to the evolution of the number of customers in the system. Applying the theory of Markov regenerative processes and resorting to Markov chain embedding, we present a new algorithm for computing limit distributions of the number cus...
